According to the research of Harris (2009) about the relationship of self-esteem and academic performance of African-American students in the minority engineering programs, she found out that self-esteem had a high correlation with academic performance as measured by the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory Adult form (CSEI-A) and academic success. Furthermore, she concluded that it was similar to the results of Bankston Zhou (2002), Lockett Harrell (2003), Schmidt Padilla (2003), West, Fish Stevens (1980) except for the findings of Van Laar (2000) who reported little to no relationship between self-esteem and academic success in African American students. From the research of Dimar (2011), it shows that self-esteem and academic performance has an effect on Filipino students.
